Wine maker since 3 generations Everything came to life in 1992 when Michel made his first wines with his father, Maurice, a winemaker. It was evident from the start: Michel wanted to contribute his part to the world of wine. His journey is marked by oenology, encounters, studies, family stories, and cultural heritage. Self-taught, he realizes that his true calling lies in putting his knowledge into practice. With deep roots in winemaking, Michel took possession of a family agricultural land in 2007. It was there that he began to write the story of the Clos de l'Écotard. Since 1996, Michel has been involved in viticulture, but it is with theClos de l’Écotard that it realizes its philosophy of working in harmony with biodiversity. From 2007 to 2011, he transformed the Clos into aecosystem welcoming diverse forms of life, from fruit trees to the first vine plants, with the aim of creatingauthentic wines that faithfully reflect their environment. In the family, everything is a story of family, passion, respect, and harmony with nature. Le Clos de l'Écotard is an estate of 15 hectares located in Maine et Loire, mainly in the town of Courchamps. We work with a beautiful diversity of grape varieties and soils ; which therefore results in fragmented plots in the communes of Courchamps, Fosse-Bellay and Saumur. On the vineyard, we explore the particularities of the Grape Variety Chenin Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvignon Gamay Grolleau gray Black Grolleau Chardonnay Sauvignon Soils Clay Limestone Clay Sander Sandblaster Clos de l'Écotard is an adventure on a human scale, which favors experience and authenticity e. It is in this side of accompaniment of the earth up to the glasses that thepleasure develops . There is a cyclical side to making wine and at the same time, every year is different. At Clos de l'Écotard, we strive to constantly improve our results and our methods. We are always looking for progress and improvement in the quality of our wines. By working closely with nature and adhering closely to our values, we take the risk of forging a different path each year alongside Mother Nature, while maintaining ambitious and demanding goals." "The vineyards and the cellar are our laboratories, where we explore, understand, and innovate. In 1992, when I drastically thinned the vines, leaving only a few clusters per vine, I was deemed crazy. But deep down, I knew that to achieve their maximum quality, the clusters needed space to fully capture the surrounding energies." Michel Chevré closer of the essential By deciding to work in harmony with nature, it is quite natural that the estate leads its vines in Organic Farming since 2011 and also follows very closely Biodynamic Agriculture. These practices are essential when we want to work at the rhythm of nature and especially with it. We favor practices such as grassing, rolling in certain plots, and horse work in others. Anything that will balance the life of the soil, plants and aerial life in a natural way is favored. When we read “close to the essential” we think of nature but also of humans and animals:the living beings. The 15 hectare estate is intended to be on a human scale and each member of the team is a pillar. Conviviality, communication, mutual aid, collective are the key words of our work.
